The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for annual fund development, donor database management, donor acknowledgement/stewardship, and fundraising activities, including special events, campaigns, grants, and promotional outreach. They cultivate prospective new individual, corporate, and community partnerships to provide volunteer support, generate revenue, and foster community awareness through the strategic planning of special events and programs. This position directly assists in the creation and implementation of strategic plans designed to provide financial support for the organization, as well as a yearly marketing plan that aligns with development goals. They are also responsible for various administrative tasks, including ordering supplies for Development and developing social media assets.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising/Development:

  • Develop the annual fundraising plan along with the Development Committee Chair
  • Develops and implements donor acknowledgement/appreciation process.
  • Manage all annual appeals, campaign solicitations, sponsorship requests, 3rd party fundraising efforts by assisting with creating letters, identifying recipients, setting timelines, donor meetings/follow up and providing status reports as needed.
  • Assist with solicitation of major gifts, capital campaign, and planned giving.
  • Facilitate the fundraising/development and campaign committees.
  • Organize and maintain the donor database and donor reporting as required.
  • Assists with government, corporate, and foundation grant proposals (research, writing, editing, and reports).
  • Processes all gifts received, prepares gift acknowledgements and benefits, and maintains accurate records.
  • Meet annual development goals.
  • Develop and send quarterly updates to horse sponsors and facilitate the redemption of their benefits.
  • Assist with Bloomerang updates.
  • Manages the Development Coordinator.
  • Curate volunteer opportunities for community partners, and work with the Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator to execute opportunities.
  • Execute and lead the Center of Excellence campaign.
  • Report updates to the Board at meetings as needed.
  • Ensure recognition and benefits are followed through with.
  • Utilize segmentation approaches when communicating with donors as needed.
  • Leverage the donor pyramid as needed.

Events/PR/Marketing:

  • Leads the planning and execution of all PALS events.
  • Manages all public relations and marketing efforts.
  • Maintains existing partner relationships and develops and implements short and long-term PR and marketing strategies related to events.
  • Assists with the event registration system and reporting.
  • Leads the promotion efforts of PALS, utilizing all forms of available media, including social media.
  • Develop all graphic design and creative materials as needed.
  • Manage organizational website.
  • Assist with client and volunteer recruitment efforts.
  • Attend and coordinate community outreach events.
  • Develop and send out quarterly newsletters.
  • Develop a yearly promotional calendar for all social media channels, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, website blog posts, and YouTube.
  • Compile social media analytics to help guide the promotional calendar.
  • Order promotional materials and other items for events.
  • Coordinate with the photographer.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the preparation of speaking engagements and other events as needed.
  • Schedule student projects and manage student groups.
  • Compile programming data and create/design the annual report.

General:

  • Maintain all budget line items as prescribed.
  • Assists with the development of the annual budget.
  • Lead the annual development of action plans and the updating of action plans on a monthly basis.
  • Assists with appreciation efforts of all constituent groups.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Attend board, fundraising campaign, event, and development committee meetings as needed.
  • Supervise & train interns as appropriate.
  • Attend weekly status update meetings with the Executive Director.
  • Check e-mail and respond to all PALS-related e-mails in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
  • Check phone messages and return all PALS-related phone calls in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
  • Maintain compliance with all PALS Policies and Procedures.
  • Report to the Executive Director.
  • Triage voicemails and send them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure inquiries coming in through the website are handled in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Bookkeeper in maintaining accurate records and reconciliation between Bloomerang and QBD.
  • Other duties as assigned.
