Job Description

The Indiana University Foundation is seeking an Individual Giving Officer (IGO) to serve on the Individual Giving Team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to enter the fundraising field, complete with a robust onboarding plan that will set you up for a successful future in higher education fundraising at IU!

In this role, you will focus on two major areas of fundraising: identifying major gift prospects and cultivating leadership annual giving donors. You'll have the unique opportunity to engage with donors and prospects with various philanthropic interests and collaborate with schools, units, and campuses across Indiana University, providing seamless connections as you learn more about their interests.

You will be based in Indiana and will travel within the western united states, taking responsibility for planning and executing donor visits. Typically, you can expect to travel out west 4-6 days per month.

The wide variety of front-line fundraising experiences will help you become a subject matter expert and a leader in the field. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience  

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in fundraising or related industry, strongly preferred. 
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered, and applicants with transferrable skills and experiences are encouraged to apply.  

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with donors, prospects, and colleagues. 
  • Exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use current computer technology, such as Windows, Excel, Word, Access, etc. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering collaboration across advancement disciplines. 
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret information and/or data. 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences). Precision, timeliness, clarity, and accuracy in written communication are vital. 
  • An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff and volunteers.

The salary range for this position is $53,000- $56,000. This position is hybrid eligible, and IGOs will be asked to complete onboarding for several weeks in Bloomington, IN, with a flexible hybrid schedule thereafter. The anticipated start date for this role is January 2024.
